DAY 2: MULLHOUSE – ALSACE – COLMAR – STRASBOURG
After having breakfast at our hotel, we have a full day of free time. Guests who wish can optionally join the Alsace Wonders Colmar & Strasbourg Tour (100 Euro). First, we will head to the fairy tale city of Colmar to see the Old Customs House, the Pfister House, and the most famous part of the city, Petite Venise (Little Venice) surrounded by colorful houses along the Rhine River. You will find many delicious food options to satisfy your taste and various souvenirs to purchase in this unique environment surrounded by the Rhine and canals. Our next stop is Riquewihr, famous for its vineyards in the Alsace region with flowering balconies, unique rows of shops, traffic-free cobbled roads, historical buildings that survived World War II, and charming cafes; it also houses the Dolder Museum, which carries the city’s story with documents to the present day. Riquewihr, the most visited village in the Alsace region, boasts a population of about 1100 and is surrounded by vineyards, making it the pearl of the region. The harvest festivals that begin in mid-September further enhance Riquewihr’s appeal, adorned with typical German architecture featuring half-timbered pastel-toned houses and flowers, lining the gently sloping main street ‘Grand Rue’ leading up from the city’s entrance. After completing our visit here, we move on to Strasbourg. We are in the second significant city of the European Union after Brussels. Rich in history and culture, it is the city of Gutenberg, Rouget de Lisle, the Dutch philosopher Erasmus, and the German writer Goethe. The historic center of Strasbourg is located in the UNESCO World Heritage site region of "Grande Ile." During our city tour, we will see the Strasbourg Cathedral and many other sites, most of which are surrounded by a river on an island. The most beautiful and interesting district of Strasbourg, La Petite France, is located in the southwest of this island. Here, where the rivers meet and are organized, it is filled with historic houses and museums from the Renaissance period. After the tour, we transfer back to our hotel and then have free time.
